Serious Spring Clamp
thingiverse
The only lasting component in spring clamps is indeed the spring. Even my reliable Wolfcraft clamps eventually give up after several years of faithful service. Could it be that manufacturers deliberately design products to become obsolete? What if we could create stronger parts with longevity as our top priority? These are the specs for a custom clamp: Jaws open wide enough to grip objects up to 2 3/8 inches. To make one, you'll need these parts: Two handles (printed using 3D technology) Two pivot jaws (also printed using 3D tech) One strong spring taken from an old broken clamp Two M3 screws that are 30mm long (preferably the set screw type) One M4 screw that's also 30mm long (ideally a set screw too) Here are the limits for the spring: The wire can be no thicker than 2.5mm in diameter. The coil should be about 10mm high and 15mm wide. The legs should be no longer than 50mm from the center. /!\ Warning: assembling this clamp can be tricky or even hazardous for people who aren't skilled. Wear safety gear, especially safety glasses. Check out the safest assembly procedure I've found in the post-printing section.
