The species is also known as Blackwood, hickory, mudgerabah, Tasmanian blackwood, or blackwood acacia. Blackwood varies considerably in height from an evergreen shrub up to a large tree with a dense, pyramidal crown; it can grow from 6 - 45 meters tall. It is a fast growing nitrogen fixing species, able to grow on a variety of soils, prolifically produces seeds with extreme longevity.
