Please see my Mark V upgrade at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2820772 which is much more rugged. Mark III upgrade 1/26/18. This upgrade takes out weak point in drive shaft to crank connection; adds a second crank to oscillate a parallelogram arm on the opposite side directly rather that through the table; and adds rotating lock pins to hold the platen in place without the need for binder clips. Consequently as the assembly of the drive shaft has got a bit more complex, I have added an exploded diagram to explain the layout. The application: Students build towers from spaghetti and marshmallows then see if they can take the seismic forces from this little table. Upper table oscillates on 4 parallelogram arms, two of which are driven by a cranks. Cranks in turn are attached to a drive shaft with a 1/4" hexagon allowing it to be rotated by an electric screwdriver or cordless drill. You will probably have to run a 1/4" drill through most of the holes to open them up for the pivot pins. Carefully squeeze the locking pins into the pivot pins using a "C" clamp. No glue is required. You will also have to use a small "Swiss" file to clean out the female drive on each of the cranks. You need the follow # of items of each: Baseplate New x 1 Top Plate x 1 Drive Shaft V4 x 1 Primary Crank x 1 Crank x 1 Shaft Lock x 1 - holds drive shaft in place, preventing axial movement, once fully assembled Pivot Pin x 9 - two on each parallelogram arm; and one between middle of one parallelogram arm and drive arm Long Pin x 1- same function as Pivot Pin but for the connection between Inner Drive Arm and middle of one parallelogram arms Locking pin x 11 - two on each parallelogram arm; one between middle of one parallelogram arm and drive arm; one between middle of one parallelogram arm and Inner Drive Arm and one to lock the crank to drive arm Parallelogram Arm x 4 Drive Arm x 1 Inner Drive Arm x 1 Lock Tab x 4 - to locate platen on top plate Platen as required - suggest # of students /6 - this allows towers to be built off the shake table and loaded on for testing I also downloaded the monkey at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1185699/#files to add to the fun - the kids have to make a tower that keeps the monkey from falling off it when shaken.
