Printing

I use 4 parameters to make the threads solid. Seams I chose to place randomly, to not make it weaker in one spot and to keep negative aesthetic impact low. I used snug supports to keep the cavity for the seal clean; it's easy to remove with an exact knife and a small screwdriver. You can omit it if you're not using the seal (or use it from the example gcode, and don't remove).

Customize

If you want a label on top, you can deboss down 1mm on the cap.

Background

I had this bottle that I wanted to repurpose as an IPA storage bottle (being more compact that a 1L bottle for day-to-day usage). I found out it had a 24/410 thread (or “neck finish” as it's apparently called) and found this hackaday post detailing how to make a custom cap: https://hackaday.com/2020/07/12/learn-the-secrets-of-matching-bottle-cap-threads-to-one-another/.

I used the tool mentioned in the post along with this video to create my own cap, which worked first try: https://www.noupoi.net/bottle-cap-thread-calculator.html

<oembed url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BS9KR-B9U4"></oembed>
