Shark Vacuum Wand Release Lever

Shark Vacuum Wand Release Lever

This wand lock/release lever broke on my vacuum cleaner. I considered buying a new vacuum cleaner, or buying the release lever on Ebay for $25+, but where is the fun in that? Designing your own part is fun, keeps a household appliance from going to the landfill early, and saves you the indignity of spending $25 for a tiny plastic part. So I first printed out the Shark Vacuum wand release lever from BitBert, and it worked - but it also had a tendency to release too easily, or inadvertently, for example when using the vacuum cleaner around the house. So I re-designed the release lever from scratch, duplicating the size and shape of the original more closely. Improvements: My re-designed lever does indeed lock more securely! It should lock really well, and require a firm push to release. It also is more rigid and less likely to bend/flex when pushed. After printing the part in PETG (so it won't be brittle), you may need to trim it a bit and clean the edges for optimal function. I recommend using a large nail file to sand off any roughness around the edges. This part assumes (requires) that you re-install the metal coil spring that pushed down on the original lock lever.
