Sherline Lathe Stepper Motor Spindle

Sherline Lathe Stepper Motor Spindle

I did this project to explore cutting threads on a Sherline Lathe via cnc instead of using the manual method (via the Sherline Thread Cutting Attachment). So I purchased some GT2 gears and a belt, and made this mounting system (very similar to Sherline's in concept). The mounting system utilizes the existing motor bracket, so just replace the regular motor with this stepper motor assembly and you have cnc control of the spindle. You will need to 3D print the stepper motor mounting plate, and 2 pieces of the mounting post. Apart from that, you will need the following: 1. NEMA 23 stepper motor - to connect to your CNC system 2. 4x 8-32 screws to mount the stepper motor to the mounting plate 3. 2x 10-32 screws + washers to connect the plate to the posts (same type of screws used to mount the regular motor to the bracket). 4. 36-tooth 6mm wide, 6.35mm bore GT2 pulley (to fit onto the stepper spindle) 5. 72-tooth 6mm wide, 14mm bore GT2 pulley (to fit onto the main Sherline spindle) 6. 280mm 6mm wide GT2 timing belt. If you require the product links (I purchased most items from Aliexpress and/or Amazon), they can be found below (under the Resources section).
