These leather shoe sole fragments were among many pieces of leatherwork excavated from the moat at Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway between 1955-1966. Dating back to the 1100s and 1300s, the leather finds from Caerlaverock are considered to be the finest surviving pieces of medieval leather work in Scotland.
