ShopBot Dust Skirt

ShopBot Dust Skirt

The original dust skirt on our ShopBot took one too many hits. I designed this using partworks but I'll include the DXF file for you to take this to any cad/cam combo. Instructions I used some scrap pieces of 3/8" polycarbonate cut to 5"x12". This required me to come up with a custom holddown solution to do the cutting. I used a jig cut from MDF and a good amount of double stick tape. You could skip the jig if you cut these parts from a full sheet. First I routed a 1/4" inch deep pocket into the MDF. This held the material in place as I made my cuts. Next I cut the main shoe. It's the part that clamps onto the spindle. the small hole clamps on using a split in the shoe and a 2" #8 bolt. The large hole accepts a standard 4" dust collection hose connector. Then I cut 3 identical skirt/spacer parts. One of them gets the vinyl skirt material attached to it. The other 2 are used as spacers when using longer bits. The design has 4 1/4" holes used to hold some 3/8" x 1/4" magnets. These are what hold all of the layers together.
