The gap is somewhere around 3/8". Total length is 3'' and width is 3/4". They slide onto my glass shower enclosures perfectly and I use them to hold towels, rags, loofa, etc. They also slide quite nicely on the side of a cardboard box while the flaps are open or closed into the box.
