Leaf-shaped Roman skippet. On the top of the cover is a geometric and heart-shaped pattern in blue and red enamel. Bronze, enamel; L 5,28 cm; w 2,64 cm; h 0,8 cm. Especially in the Roman period after Christ skippets were used to protect the seals on documents and leather bags with precious content. The bottom of the skippet is connected by a hinge with a cover. There are holes in the bottom and sides of the seal capsule. Through this, a string can be performed to tie the sealing capsule, for example, with a closed wax tablet and knot it inside the sealing capsule. Subsequently, the bottom of the sealing capsule, in which the knot is located, filled with sealing wax, stamped with a signet ring and closed the lid of the capsule. In this way, the seal was protected. Model: © Landessammlungen Niederösterreich, Niederösterreich 3D
