A common regret when photograph work with a macro ring flash is that the image seem flat. This is due to the lack of shadow caused by the fact that the light come from the point of view: the same effect appear you use a headlamp by night. This tool permit to hold the flash in a better position. It have 3 easy freedom degrees : the angle of the camera fixation, the angle between the two threaded rod and the angle of fixation of the flash. Note that I add 2 grips from MaxGlide. There is many way to mount it, you can remove the photo screw for tripod holding (I add this to take a picture for Thingiverse) or add an over handle. Its parenthood with TV support for camcorder give you even more possibility. Need part (see picture): Threaded rod M8: 2 (here 350mm and 470mm long) Nut M8: 15-20 Big washer M8: 8-10 Screw "photo format" (1/4 inch large × 1/2 inch length): 1 Nut "photo format" (1/4 inch large): 1 Screw M3 cylindrical head 25mm: 4 Nut M3: 4 Rubber washer seal 15-21 : 1 Update on 10th March 2016: An bigger camera support is added that permit a better fixation of the camera. It's inspired by my Quick release camera mounting plate. It require smaller M3 screws (12 or 16 mm long). Print Settings Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: The master piece of this thing is the flash holder. Here I'm in trouble: the conception of my printer favour the external dimensions. For most of thing I do, when the internal dimensions are the most important, I just print it at 105% scale. Here due to the importance of external dimension, I can't. So I enlarge the holes dimension and that work fine... For me... If you have an idea on how to share my designs cleanly, thank to let me a comment. To give an example of this trouble, I print the flash holder at 100% scale and the hole designed to introduce the M8 nuts shrink from 13.66mm × 12.6mm to 12.6mm × 11.15mm. Post-Printing Flash holder support removal Cut the upper links between the supports and the flash holder and remove the support by dragging it out of the hole. Thumb wheel box support removal This operation is easy: just break the piece ! The surface may be softened with a cutter. Washer tap gluing Use cyanoacrylate glue and a clamp to fix the rubber washer seal on the thumb-wheel box: it permit a better camera fixation. Handle fixation The hole for M8 threaded rod is deep, that permit lenght adjustements.
