Silencer 9.2
thingiverse
Developed by competing over 10 different versions and many more sub-versions in sound suppression trials. This design is the best suppressor I could come up with in sound suppression and mass. Designed for .22 lr guns with a .5''-28 thread. Sound suppression was tested with a SW Victory with a Ridge-Lite threaded barrel. A Cellphone mic placed <200 yards away through woods was used to record the sound profile. Herter's plated hollow point 36 grain ammo was used. At least five replicate firing sound profiles were used. Unsuppressed the gun produced a peak of 46 db and average of 45 db, with this suppressor the gun produced a peak of 32 db and average of 27.3 db. Comparing peaks a reduction in sound power of 96% was achieved. Comparing averages a sound power reduction of 98.3% was achieved. Better performance should be expected with sub-sonic ammo. Over 100 rounds have been shot through this design without it blowing apart or suffering any more damage than carbon soot build up. Obviously a plastic suppressor can't be cleaned and is to be thrown away once worn out. PLA plastic is what this was built with, which is biodegradable.
