Silent Buffer

Silent Buffer

thingiverse

Hey guys. This is something I thought would be neat to have for GBB M4s. I modeled it after the JP Silent Captured Spring. This is supposed to help with bolt bounce, getting rid of the spring rubbing against the buffer tube noise, and make the cycling action smoother. This would only be compatible with bolt carriers that have the hole in the back like the GHK, VFC, and RA tech bolt for WE M4. The three weights on the cylindrical piece I tried to cut down on the overall cost of having something like this made. So I tried using widely available off the shelf parts and kept amount of custom stuff to be machined to a minimum. For example the end piece is modeled after a D25L30 stepper motor shaft coupler. All it does it hold the linear shaft in place and provide a pocket for the spring. Only the face piece need to be made from POM, and that only have to be turned. But despite that this still was pretty expensive. Ended up being around $75 for the whole thing. Finding the right sized weights was also pretty tricky. But that's easier to modify than the POM face piece. I thought about 3d printing the face piece, but I don't have experience with strength and impact resistance of different filament and infills. I'm especially worried about the area connecting the flange section and the cylindrical section breaking off. I don't have a 3d printer to experiment with different designs. So I'm sharing the files here hoping someone with a lathe can continue developing this further and bring it to market or something.
