Silicone Heater Block Mold for Wanhao D9 Series Printers

Silicone Heater Block Mold for Wanhao D9 Series Printers

thingiverse

This is a prototype for a mold to make a silicone sock for the heat block for the Wanhao D9 series printers. I have not finished the work but since someone asked in a Wanhao group about this I thought I'd publish it then update as I proceed or let someone else run with it. So, the idea here is to use a screw to attach the block (scale model of the heat block) to the outside mold. Then you need to coat the interior cavity between the block and the mold as well as the top of the block with something like petroleum jelly or something similar. Then carefully fill the cavity with the high temp silicone to the top of the outside mold. Once the silicone has set hopefully you can pull it all apart provided the petroleum jelly did its job and prevented permanent adhesion to the plastic.
