Similar Triangles!!! (Sim Trig)

thingiverse

This is a set of two similar triangles that can be used to teach the similar triangles unit in mathematics. Several activities can be done including taking the triangles, a piece of paper, ruler and a protractor to show that all sizes of the triangles have the same side length ratio as well as angles. as shown in the photo. Another piece is get the students to place the small triangle inside the larger one to show that they fit together, ( if they don't fit together the small one is upside down ;) ). Print Settings Printer: M3D Rafts: Yes Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: Depends on the activity you ave in mind. Infill: Low, around 20% should do fine. Notes: i had trouble printing it for a while, but once I used some green masking tape for some extra surface texture and a raft it worked just fine. Post-Printing One of the exercise ideas. How I Designed This I used 123D Design and Blender to make these. Project: Sim Trig! Objectives: This is to help teachers teach students about similar triangles in an interactive way for all those kinesthetic learners out there. I always found that once i had something physical to compare a lesson to i always remembered it better. Audiences: Any grade of students learning about similar triangles could use this, they would probably, however, be in high school or grade 8. Preperation: All students need to know before hand is what a similar triangle is and then these activities can reinforce that knowledge. They should have different materials depending on the activity most of which will, however, require a ruler, protractor, pencil and paper. Steps: There are tons of activities you could use these in, however, i will describe one of them just to get your mind juices flowing. Take a piece of paper and the triangles. Get students to trace the triangles in several orientations and sizes. Have them measure each angle. Have them measure each side length. Have them find the ratios between the side lengths. Have them realize all the angles are the same. Celebrate in a class well taught! :) Results: This is more of an activity for learning and not assessment so I would suggest that they do not get graded on this, however, do as you will with the activities you create! By the end of this activity the students should have a set of triangles drawn on the page in different sizes that are all similar triangles and have gained the knowledge of how they work.
