As I helped my ex clean and prepare his house for sale, I went to work in the basement. I started pulling up carpet and padding that had probably been laid in the 1980s. It was nasty, smelly work. As I tugged and pulled at the carpet and pad, a starburst pattern emerged. A bullseye pattern had emerged at the foot of the steps. We think it might’ve been a game put there by the early home owners. This and another starburst pattern were a surprise. I don’t know how old it is. I’m a poor judge of style or the materials used. The tile looks liek the type that was common from the 1950s onwards. But it looks like it was either purchased at a hardware store or better yet might’ve been made by hand. I like the handmade concept more as it speaks to me about the pride someone had in adding a personal touch. It’ll all dissapear beneath more padding and carpeting soon. I wonder who the next person will be that sees it, or when it will emerge again?
