Simple Gears Simple Gears Overview & Background This will teach kids about the interactions between gears and basic mechanics. Objectives Students will be expected to learn the importance of gears in everyday life. Audiences This project should be used between grades one and two. Subjects This could be used in science class. Skills Learned Children will learn how to use and interact with gears. Lesson/Activity Children will first be given a peg board and gears. secondly, they will put the gears in an order where each gear is touching the next (either horizontally or vertically.) They will then be told to turn the first gear in the order and observe how one gear makes the next gear move. Duration This project should take around 20 minutes. Preparation No prior knowledge is needed to complete the project. Rubric & Assessment The final project should have the last gear move when the first gear is turned.
