Simple Coin Bank with Secret Locking Mechanism is a coin bank featuring a secret locking mechanism designed to teach kids the value of saving money. This model was inspired by my previous Apple Coin Bank design, but includes an added feature - making early savings withdrawals possible without revealing the lock's secret. The Simple Coin Bank showcases dovetail fixed joinery and a sliding dovetail top, requiring users to figure out how to open it eventually. The locking mechanism is based on the German-designed "Radbox," which incorporates two mirrored slotted wheels in an innovative way to keep the box closed. Although my design uses cam-shaped rather than wheel-shaped components, the operational principle remains the same. Like the original Radbox design, this lock stays hidden even when the box is opened, making it a clever feature. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the name of the original designer behind this ingenious mechanism, and I would appreciate any help in giving them proper credit. Simple Coin Bank requires no batteries, power supplies, motors, springs, computers, wiring, or other hardware - just 3D printed parts. This is one reason I enjoyed designing, printing, assembling, and testing it. Please feel free to ask questions if you need clarification on anything; I tend to forget files occasionally. This model was designed using Autodesk Fusion 360, sliced with Cura 3.4.1, and printed in PLA on both the Ultimaker 2+ Extended and the Ultimaker 3 Extended.
