Simula is an open-source Artificial Life project built around Arduino and utilizing Creative Commons - Share Alike software. Developers are encouraged to make modifications, and Simula's internal design allows for effortless changes. Kits including essential electronics, sensors, motors, and non-printable parts can be purchased at https://www.chicagorobotics.net. These components have been expertly aligned for optimal print quality, so modifying the orientation may compromise results. Simula requires three specific filament types: Clear/Translucent PLA for the back, Ninjaflex for treads, and PLA for all other parts. ABS can be used as an alternative, but PLA produces a more visually appealing finish due to its brittle nature, which enhances bearing performance. Supports and Rafts are recommended for printing all parts except the Ninjaflex treads. To achieve the best results, print one "Upper" part using a translucent filament, such as plain old translucent PLA. Print two "Tread" parts using Ninjaflex or your preferred flexible filament; Ninjaflex yields optimal outcomes among various flexible filaments tested. Next, print two of the following components: DriveWheel, IdlerWheel, IdlerBearing, HubCap, and MotorPlate. Print one each of all remaining parts. Detailed instructions for setting up a quality print using Simplify3D will be provided, but feel free to use your preferred slicer software.
