The purpose of this model is to suggest modifications to the current Singapore bus, to reduce the number of elderly falls on the bus due to them climbing up to the upper deck. HOW IT WORKS There will be a door mechanism at the upper deck which prevents commuters from climbing up or down the stairs when the bus is moving. However, this door mechanism will only be activated when there is at least one elderly onboard. This means that it will be activated when elderly taps to board the bus, and it will turn off when the last elderly taps out to leave the bus. As long as there is no elderly on the bus, the door will remain open throughout. There will be a sign at the lower deck informing commuters the status of the door at the upper deck. When the bus has come to a complete stop, the door will open to enable the passengers exiting or entering the upper deck. This ensures that no elderly will be climbing the stairs when the bus is on the move, thus helping to reduce the number of elderly accidents.
