The gear for the needle position and the zigzag mechanism broke on my Singer Stylist 7258 Here is a replacement that works like a charm ! The official replacement part number is #087246 You will need to use the 2 little set screws from the broken piece to secure it to the motor shaft. To remove the original broken gear, unmount the head cover and unscrew the 2 hex screws that support the motor so you can push the motor back and further aside. Unscrew the 2 set screws that holds the gear on the motor shaft and slide it off. Align the gear below like the pic and slide the replacement gear on the motor shaft. Push it back to unclench the gear mechanism. Place and tighten the 2 set screws that were on the broken gear in the 2 holes on the new one to secure it. It takes a few trial and error but the needle should be placed at the center again and the zig zag stitch should function normally.
