bendrexl designed a nice AA to D cell adapter, however, I did not have a "brass fastener". I do have a bunch of loose screws. I popped the file into tinkercad and replaced the square hole with a 3mm screw hole. Simply put a 3Mx12 screw in the end so that it touches the tip of the AA battery.
