About This Remix:

This is a remix of the Sith Acolyte Mask (Star Wars) by Killonious.

Killonious did a wonderful job designing the mask as a prop display mask. They also have an etsy shop.

I made this remix because the mask was impractical to print as a single item and the splits that were offered by the original creator were simple cuts with no practical way of reassembly. They also cut along main aspects of the model that would result in much needed cleanup on reassembly. The original was also designed more as a prop than a mask to wear. Since it had no breathing holes, I added some that were in the spirit of the design.

So I did the following:

Split the mesh by hand in blender to so that the main cuts falls along an existing edge in the mask. This also allows the top to be printed independently from the bottom in case you want to wear it for something else.

Added a band along the inside of the mask as part of the lower mask so that there is an overlap for fitting and gluing the parts together.

Added breathing cuts to the nose and front of the mask.

Added cuts for straps so that the mask could be worn.

To Ensure Fit:

The mask is quite large, you can print it smaller, but I would not recommend going below 90%. One of the folks I printed this for has a large head and the 100% was able to fit them. For myself I went with 95%. That said, none of the scaling during the printing was necessary. When printing with PLA we were able to let the mask sit in hot water for 30 seconds and then it was pliable enough to push and pull the edges for a better fit. I recommend this method, with one caveat. You will want to ensure that your lower and upper mask still fit one another. This can be done by gluing them prior to shaping or by shaping the top first, then shaping the lower to match the upper. Keep in mind you do not need to heat the whole mask. Typically just the sides. To do this I held the mask ‘nose’ over the water so that just the sides became pliable. You don't want to risk ruining the overall symmetry of the face when you do this, so be careful and start slowly.

A Note About My Files:

The stls are exported from the plates I printed and have the orientation I used to print. I have also included my 3mf files.

Also of note, for the lower mask, there is a version with some manual supports. These help it be more stable as it is a longer print, these supports snap off easily.

If you are looking for a complete mask, not my split version. You can download it from the original posting on thingverse.
