A candle insert for the Skull Lantern (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:482307) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExqqrC4wbEs&feature=youtu.be (Flickering looks better in real life, sorry for potato quality). The Skull Lantern was originally made to have a tea-light led candle put into the top, but I wanted to have an actual candle look to the display so I made this large candle insert which fits in the bottom of the lantern. The shaft of the candle is a (crudely) resized, cropped version of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:376176 - I'm no artist so a shout out to jradcoolness for that one. The base of the candle is in 2 parts and has discrete openings where you can put a switch, a micro USB socket for charging a battery, and a light dependant resistor. There is enough room to fit an LIR2032 lithium-ion battery, a charging/protection board ( http://sparks.gogo.co.nz/1A-Single-Cell-Li-Ion-Charger---With-Protection-383.html - adjusted to reduce the charge current of course, just hot-glue it in), and a PCB for the flickering LED circuit, although I've only filled it with the flickering PCB at the moment. A standard 5mm led (or two) can be inserted in the middle of the candle and one of them comes out the top. I use a yellow and an orange LED with the yellow one poking out the top and the orange one providing an internal diffuse lighting for the candle body (printed in white pla). This produces a really nice effect - but not a lot of light, decoration, not in any way useful as a lantern! skull-candle.dch = DipTrace Schematic job_5843-DipTrace_Schematic_-_skull-candle.pdf = PDF of schematic CandleFlicker_ATTINY13.zip = Arduino program (sketch) for ATTiny13 candle flickering core13_with_boards_txt.zip = "core13" with my boards.txt for the Arduino IDE to support ATTiny13 This thing was made with Tinkercad.
