All hard rock geologists know, how pain in the butt it is to store and carry petrographic thin sections, without A) breaking them and B) paying two kidneys worth of money for a standard slide holder box. This is a thin section holder I threw together using trial and error and a dozen of test prints. There are two variations, the original, capable of holding a standard of 25 slides, and a smaller version, holding 5 slides. The smaller one easily fits in a pocket, useful for when making thin sections, where one has to carry a few slides, or unfinished thin sections from one lab to the other for example. The 25pcs slide holder gets used daily as I produce thin sections for my thesis. Both hold up fine in the day-to-day abuse they face in the labs (and being thrown in backpacks, and sometimes on the floor). The slots are 50 mm wide and 2 mm thick, so most thin (and thick, looking at you, fluid inclusion people) sections should fit nicely. With the lid on, the space is 50x30x2 mm for one slide. I suggest sticking a stripe of 1 or max 2 mm thick felt on the inside of the lid, it stops rattling, and secures the slides more snugly.
