Slide-in Box

This is a box with a slide-in cover, made with TinkerCAD. A little slot is made to insert the lid for a completely closed container. This project will create a very nice, little souvenir for students! How I Designed This The way this was designed will be included in the steps below. Project: Slide-in Box Objectives By the end of this Project, students will have learned the basics of TinkerCAD, including the use of 3D shapes, duplication, and holes. Audiences Anyone who can use a computer can participate in this project, but it's recommended for 5th grade and above. Preparation No previous experience with TinkerCAD or 3D printers is necessary, but a computer with internet connection is required to access TinkerCAD. Previous experience with computers is also recommended. Steps Have the students work alone, in pairs, or in groups to complete this project. Pull a rectangular prism from the sidebar and shape it to the desired size. This is your base for the box. Pull another rectangular prism and place it in the base that you previously made. Have it a few cm above the bottom and sides of the box, and click hole. Group these two prisms, and marvel at the open box you have created. Place another rectangular prism on the workplane, and size it thin so it's a lid for your box. Move it so it is a few mm from the top and sides of your box. Size it so the lid touches one short side. This is the slit where your lid will fit, and the grooves this lid touch will be the grooves the final lid will slide in. Duplicate this lid, and place it to a side. Make the original lid a hole, and group the lid and the box. Now you can see the grooves that the lid will fit in. The grooves should be a few mm in size, and the slit should be visible on a short side. You are done! Extra fun: Have advanced students try out harder shapes, such as triangular prisms, and have them figure out where the slit and grooves will turn out. Print to see if their box works! Result Students will now have a wonderful box to store their smaller belongings. Grade them based on their participation and teamwork skills (if applicable).
