Slotted Angle Iron Rack for Cheap Crates

thingiverse

This upload is a SCAD file for open SCAD to allow designing of racks to hold cheap plastic crates. It allows the user to determine the size of the crates, the number of crates per row and the number of rows, and it will determine the size of the angle iron struts that will need to be cut to construct a suitable rack. The rack makes use of the slotted angle Iron profile to avoid having to add shelves, although they could be added if required. To use this open the .scad file with openscad ( https://www.openscad.org/ ) , and adjust the parameters at the top of the file. all the parameters are self expiatory, the only one to note is the crateOutset which is a value to compensate the overlap between the slotted angle iron, it is normally defaulted to 3 times the thickness of the angle iron, but can be overridden. The openscad program will render a image of the rack as shown, but will also emit in the console log the dimensions of the 3 different sizes of strut required so you can cut to size. The dimensions of the struts are in millimeters.
