Small mammal trap adapter

Small mammal trap adapter

thingiverse

This thing consists of adaptors for two types of small mammal traps that allow a tin can to be added as a nest chamber for any mice or voles captured. One is for a Sherman trap (small) that is widely used for studying small mammals and the other for a TripTrap that is used mostly to humanely capture mice in buildings. Adding a chamber allows more straw and food to be used such that it does not interfere with the trap mechanism. For the triptrap, the adapter snaps in in place of the original chamber. For the sherman trap, the adapter can be locked into the mechanism by withdrawing the hinge pin half way back and opening the split section. Open the freed-up split side and lock the door under the trip mechanism and locate the adapter behind the three exposed flaps. Then locate fourth flap as you close the split side and reinsert the pin. Both adapters have a circular recess to fix in a standard size tin. A larger diameter an should fit around the circumference of the adapter. NB cans seem to vary in diameter and thickness so some adjustment may be needed.
