Small parts drawer

With the Mendelmax1.5+-style printers, you need small tools for loading filament, adjusting level and tension, etc. This drawer includes left and right side rails and a rear panel with magnetic catch feature. The files are mostly parametric, but the nominal is 100 mm wide and 170 mm deep, with height of 28 mm to fit between the aluminum extrusions. 3 screws (M5) are used to mount it. This design clears the Y carriage plastic strap, at default dimensions, used on the linear support rail system. It is not suitable for the older mendel 1.0 designs with 2 support rods for Y axis system. Instructions This drawer includes left and right side rails and a rear panel with magnetic catch feature. Two Hobby Lobby round refrigerator magnets are glued to the rear panel and a 1/2" ID steel washer is placed between them to distribute the field. A slot in the rear of the tray carries another 1/2" washer that is attracted to the magnets and retains the drawer. The washer installs to the left edge and the drawer is inserted. Use a hex key to move the washer to the center, and it will also be a drawer stop and keep things from dumping out! The files are mostly parametric, but the nominal is 100 mm wide and 170 mm deep, with height of 28 mm to fit between the aluminum extrusions. SCAD source files are included with some comments for making modifications to your need. 3 screws (M5) are used to mount it. One nut upper left rail, one nut lower left rail, one nut upper front crossrail. Put in the nuts, then install the left rail. Next is the rear panel with one M5 screw into the lower rail. The cover is optional, but does slow filament bits from the extruder collecting in the drawer. Cover goes into the front extrusion slot, then the rear panel is moved forward to capture it. Slide the cover against the left rail, in the upper slot. Insert the right rail from the front, then rotate counterclockwise into position. Start the screw in front panel and slide it toward the Y axis idler. Install the tray and move the right rail to a snug slip fit on the tray. Check that the Y axis carrier is clear, then tighten all 3 screws. This design clears the Y carriage plastic strap, at default dimensions, used on the linear support rail system. Please note it is not suitable for the older mendel 1.0 designs with 2 support rods for Y axis system. The nut trap in the front takes an M5 half nut (thin) and an M5 cap screw can be used for a drawer pull. A longer hex bolt or screw can be installed from the inside and a wing nut screwed on for a handle, also. This package does not include a full trim panel for the drawer. With one more nut in the top front rail, a simple flat piece can be designed and printed to fill that space, if you desire. The STL files are suitable for ABS or PLA. There are 2 versions of the tray included. Tray 1 has thin 3mm tray walls and will be warp sensitive in ABS. Tray 2 has 5mm walls and has been good for ABS prints. The heat shield tabs should be cut away after the print is removed from the plate. These minimize layer splitting and warping at the corners.
