After the previous revision I realized that my speakers were 3". doh! So, I revised the previous revision to handle a 3 inch (7.6cm) speaker. I widened the case and moved the horn part down a bit. The side panels from the previous revision should fit. I haven't printed it yet. I'm using this speaker: Metra CX-400 4" Two-Way 180 Watts Coaxial Speaker System - Pair I'm also thinking about wiring in series this device with styrofoam boards: 1 Pc Audio Speaker 20W 4Ohm 8Ohm 44MM Full Range Vibration Speakers Loudspeaker I'm using this bluetooth board: bluetooth Amplifier Board Hifi Stereo 2Audio TPA3116D2 Digital Power Amplifier I'm using the PowerAmp app on an Android Phone. PowerAmp has a nice equalizer. I'm using sort of a V shape with the bass side a bit higher than the treble side since the speaker already has a tweeter. The vibration exciter yields even more base but has a bit of a flat sound so the two speaker and vibration exciter together seems to give a full sound. I'm not sure about mixing the ohms but the board can handle many ohms variations so it should be OK. I may settle on the speaker by itself without the exciter, I haven't decided (argh indecision). After I got the speaker it just barely fit and I had to squeeze it in a bit but it did fit. It sounds OK. Anyway, it's all an experiment. Other experiments: I tried playing with making a box with a slider area to try to tune the waveguide length and where the front and port bass crossover. I just sort of did it by ear. It sort of seems to work. However, I wonder with the thin walls if the walls were just working as a resonant vibration speaker themselves. Anyway, seemed about the same as the other cabinet so I didn't bother going further with it. Maybe I'll play with it more in the future (see the partially made black box in the picture with tape). Let me know what you think if you wish (but please in a good way, be kind). I tried redesigning the waveguide completely. It looks sort of like guts! The idea was to (1) figure out how long it needed to be made. (2) Make it with not flat spots to bang against, only curves, said to reduce standing waves. I found out that 600Hz wave is about 22.5 inches long. So full wave would need that long of a wave guide. I figure really 600Hz is midrange not bass so probably lower like 400 or 300Hz would have been better. After making the waveguide, I think it was a little bit long so that pushes the bass a little lower (300Hz is a longer wave), so I guess I sort of hit that goal accidentally. Anyway, I got tired of designing it so I may try to print it and test it at some point. Again, I don't have audio testing equipment so I'm just doing it by ear and playing with the equalizer to fix what can be fixed. I may try to clean this up and print this at some point to try it. Anyway, let me know what you think if you wish (but again please in a good way, be kind). The other thing I wonder is if the walls of the speaker cabinet sort of add to the distortion. Maybe inside of the cabinet there needs to be dead air space all around it (different than the infill) to try to dissipate any vibration that could be heard outside of the cabinet. I'm not sure how much dead air space or if multiple dead air spaces need to be made. I figure I should probably try that if I make another design in the future. One thing might be to try filling the dead air space with fiberglass or rockwool. I figure it could double the size of the cabinet so I'm not sure how practical it is but it is where I suspect some distortion is coming from so it might be worth it. Dead air space may even need to be all around the waveguide, hmm. Anyway, let me know what you think if you wish (but again please in a good way, be kind). I've included my EQ settings just for fun. it's basically just a V shape. I brought down the lowest bass since it taxes the bluetooth board a little (Using a 24v adapter instead of a 12V may fix that). Anyway, the first cabinet sounds good so I'll probably enjoy it for a while before trying to go further.
