Snare mat (adjustable) for box drums

I wanted an adjustable snare mat for a stomp box I am building, so I designed this. It uses threads and nut from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:193647 that I just dragged into Tinkercad and designed my project around. The mat itself I made using the A-string from an acoustic guitar, cut it up in pieces about 10cm long, wrapped some blue painters tape around the ends and then crammed them into the holes of the cylinder.

The cylinder I decided to cut in half to minimize the need for supports. You still need some supports for the small square cavity I designed into the seem where the two halves connect using a small tap and glue.

You could probably use this for any box drum (like cajons) and feel free to experiment with the length of the strings. I suspect you might get a better sounding snare sound using strings longer than 10cm.

Print Settings

Printer:

Ender-2

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2mm

Infill:

30%

Category: Music
