Snatch Block!

Snatch Block!

Hey all, I recently was browsing Youtube and came across a video by SmarterEveryDay. In it he discussed the science behind pulley systems, and how they distribute force to make work easier, all with the help of some 3D printed parts used in demonstration. Of note in this video was a love letter to the jack of all pulleys, the Snatch Block! There was a link to their pulley designs listed in the description (I'll put it at the bottom of this description), which are all fantastic, but I ran into some problems. 1. I use a resin printer, an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro to be exact, so the wheels needed to be fixed as they were modelled hollow (something I discovered after I printed the first pair in clear resin). Simple enough, I drilled out some holes in Chitubox to allow the resin to drain and saved it as a new .stl file. It is included in this download as a standalone file, unsupported, all one needs to do is put it in their favorite slicer, flip it to the obligatory 45-degree angle, raise it slightly (for me on Chitu, I go with 3.00 or 3.50 on the Z axis), slap in some supports, and away you go. All the other files from SmarterEveryDay's original upload should be compatible with this new version unless you mess with the scale. 2. There was no Snatch Block! This I could not let pass, so I took the single pulley design from the original upload, plopped it in Blender, and with a little bit of magic... cut it clean in half. I also went ahead and trimmed back some bits to avoid the two halves hitting each other when swinging open. This was then saved as a separate .stl and is included in the download. Similar to the last one, flip it, support it, slice it, and ta da. As a bonus I put together a pre-supported .ctb that includes the two halves of a snatch block, a resin appropriate wheel, the proper pin for this size of block (from SmarterEveryDay's original upoad), and a securing pin to hold the main pin to the block (also from the original upload). All one needs to do is stick it on a thumb drive and print, easy peasy. SmarterEveryDay - Snatch Blocks Are Awesome: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4022579
