Sodium Chloride - NaCl

Green = Chlorine- White = Sodium+ In this model, it is a representation of the structure of Sodium Chloride, an ionic network. The intramolecular bonding is ionic, as it involves the transfer of electrons from Sodium to Chlorine, and bonds ions through electrostatic forces. The polarity of this structure is non-polar, as it is a neutral network and the charges are balanced throughout. The model of this structure is suitable to an extent, because it depicts the 3 dimensional form of the compound and the structure of the ions so the person viewing it would understand how it’s formed. It also represents the different elements as different colours which highlight the alternating pattern within the lattice. However, the model isn’t particularly life-sized, and it doesn’t have a scale of how much it has been enlarged by. The model also doesn’t represent the charges of each element, which could display the electrostatic forces.
