Solar Filter Holder for Nikon AF-S DX 55-300 Lens

With the US total eclipse coming up, I've been getting ready to view and photograph it. This is a snap-on solar filter holder for the Nikon AF-S DX 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 ED VR lens. It snaps on in place of the HB-57 lens hood. Print one of each part, face-down as shown. To assemble, cut a piece of certified solar filter film just smaller than the inner/base piece. Place the film on the base piece, then slide the cap piece on top to retain the film. On my print, it's a nice friction fit, but you might want a drop of glue to hold it together if it's looser. It should snap on and off fairly easily, especially if you squeeze on the side opposite the little tabs which will spread it a little. Note: the version shown in my photos was my first design that was longer than necessary. It limited how much you could retract the lens, so I shortened it some but haven't reprinted it yet.
