Solder Robot

Solder Robot

For an awesome class at Olin called POE (Principals of Engineering), we designed and built a robot that would take stripped wires and try to solder them together. It mostly worked, but one of the parts that didn't end up working our first time through the design was the solder feeder mechanism. As it is, the robot will take wires, twist them, heat them, and then hold them as you apply solder to the joint by hand. This makes an excessively large solder joint, which isn't super useful electrically, but it was a really fun project and a good learning experience. You can read about the project and the individual systems (Electrical, Software, Mechanical) here: https://sites.google.com/site/solderbotfa2012 More pictures can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/solderbotfa2012/home/gallery I worked primarily on the base design, electronics, and camera based control, which is why there are some pictures of the vision control process. Done with Breauna Campbell and Nick Lapin.
