I do quite a bit of soldering w/ my new RC quadcopter hobby and I do hate adding water to my tip cleaning sponge all the time, but it does work so well. I've eyed up these copper mesh ball holders for soldering iron tip cleaning and well....here's my iteration of it. I got some copper'ish cleaning mesh balls from the dollar store and they work pretty good. It's not as clean as a wet sponge but it gets me by. I'm pretty happy with my dollar investment. I cut the mesh ball in half and works great. The full mesh ball will fit but cleaning the tip of the iron isn't as easy as you'll have a harder time pushing it into the mesh as its tightly packed in there.
