Solid State Adjustable Device Holder

Solid State Adjustable Device Holder

Most tablet device and phone holders fall into two categories. The device is too big to fit into a pocket or small purse, or often in the case of phone holders, the holder requires attachment to the back of the phone, making wireless charging impossible. I wanted to watch movies at the dinning hall with a holder I can fit in my pocket, so I used a CAD software called Onshape to design a device holder which is similar in size and shape to a phone, can hold devices at many different angles, and has no moving parts for durability. The device is 3D printed which ensures lightweight when printed at or below 20% fill. It's a simple solution compared to elaborate folding phone holders/stands and is actively used by half a dozen users as of the time of first writing. The project was first put to paper around September of 2022 and produced in November whereby it was demonstrated in the UNC Chapel Hill fall 2022 MakerFest on Nov 29th.
