Sonerai 2 Frame (Airplane)

Sonerai 2 Frame (Airplane)

grabcad

This is the frame for a Sonerai 2, which is a type of airplane. These were made from old blueprints I found. The blueprints were very difficult to understand, hand drawn with a goal to save paper rather than to provide useful information. I'm pretty sure everything here is correct; I verified with a real-world aircraft where drawings were ambiguous. My intention was to model the whole plane, but I'm missing some pages and I don't want to buy a new set, so I'll probably stop at this frame.[edit]Also, the solidworks file contains a 3D sketch that controls everything (it's the only thing not in a folder inside the part). If you decide you want to change the dimensions somewhere...like maybe you need more headroom...you can do this by editing that sketch. Most changes should work fine...but some angles might make the shell fail. If this happens, edit the shell definition and just click the green check mark. After it fails you can use the diagnostic to point out the failure point(s). Just add tiny fillets to these points (before the shell in the tree) and do a CTRL + Q.Also note that this is not a weldment...I did use weldment tools to speed things up but it's meant to be used as a dumb solid; even if you are using the solidworks part that isn't dumb. I didn't want to make a real weldment because that adds a lot of time to simulation prep and such, and we already had the frame so we only needed it for other things like wing/tail design simulation, center of mass estimates, etc.
