Sony HDR AS* case

This is a protective case/mount for the older Sony HDR AS series of action cameras with a few accessory mounts incorporated.

This is a re-design of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2669589 I liked the case, but wanted to modify it some. Since it's not easy to work with meshes, I redesigned the case from scratch.

The case is designed to take a 1/4x20 nut to accommodate standard tripod mounts. There is a cold-shoe adapter on top for a Manfrotto LED light. Other cold-shoe lights may require an additional adapter.

There is another version designed to hold a cheap laser pointer cat toy on the side, to aid in aiming the camera, since there is no display on these cameras. Crude, but it helps frame a shot.

I've also added 2 new versions (v17) that use a more traditional cold shoe mount, as well as some chamfers to negate the need for supports.

The camera is a snug fit, with a small lip to clip it into place in the back. The area around the lens is extruded to provide full protection from the lens if it's dropped on a flat surface. There are openings for the LCD and side buttons, as well as the charging port, so the camera is functional and chargeable without removing from the case. There is no access to HDMI or microphone ports though.

I've had my camera free-fall onto a hard floor from about chest height using drthomp's case and while the case cracked, the camera was unharmed.

Print instructions

Category: Camera Print Settings

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: i3 MK2.5

Rafts: No

Supports: Yes

Resolution: .2mm

Infill: 5% (or whatever you like)

Filament: 3D Solutech PLA or PETG Black
Notes:

You'll minimally need supports on build plate. If your printer doesn't bridge well, you might enable supports everywhere to make the cutouts for the display and charging port cleaner.

I used 2 perimeter walls, and there was no infill in the main body itself. Only a few areas are thick enough for infill, and they have very small tops, so you can likely get away with low to no infill.

I've used both PLA and PETG.
