Sopwith Camel Remix

cults3d

This is a remix of @xcorwin's excellent Sopwith Camel model https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2979886, but I can't add it to his project as a remix because he has "No Derivatives" in his license. The parts here are all to the same scale as his model, and my Fuse-Z attaches to his Fuse-Y correctly. NB that these parts are probably unusable for an RC model; the elevators, tailplane, and rudder all print out as solid and consequently are quite heavy. Fuse-Z is modelled as a solid, and needs some infill. This is a W-I-P... so far I've only published the empennage, but I'm also remixing the front of the fuselage, mainly to allow incorporation of a Clerget 9B engine model. Probably I'll also need to remix the wings, for the same reason as the tailplanes. The main motivation for this remix was that I'm printing a scaled-down (83% of his) model, and the tailplane and elevators don't print... the internal structure "bleeds through" the skin and leaves holes. Also his model has recesses in the Fuse-Z and a hole in the rudder for (I assume) RC servos and linkages. And I wanted to print a "wooden" tailskid. Along the way, I discovered some Sopwith empennage plans, and his are slightly different. Whilst there, I added control horns to the elevators and rudder. Edit 8 May 2019: After looking at a real Sopwith Camel, I now see that the curved turtledeck from behind the cockpit only extends as far as the front of the tailplane, so Fuse-Z and the fin will need to be redone.
