Southwest Ledge is a dangerous rock formation about a mile offshore New Haven Harbour (CT). New Haven in the mid-19th century became a major industrial centre establishing the need to build a lighthouse to ensure the safety of the increasing maritime traffic. Finished in 1876, the lighthouse consist of a three-story cast-iron structure with octagonal shape with a mansard roof covering the top two stories. It is one of the first US lighthouses mounted on a circular concrete-filled iron structure known as a caisson. Today the Southwest Ledge Light is an active lighthouse listed since 1990 on the National Register of Historic Places. Check out preserving Connecticut The model was designed using pictures and detailed drawing of the actual building in scale 1/160 (N scale). You can resize it using your favourite software before print, however, if you do so, some of the parts may lose stability or look over scaled. Model has 14 different pieces that you need to assembly as any other model kit: I attached an instruction booklet together with the downloaded files. Printing, painting and weathering will give a lot of fun. This model can be a great addition to your layout or diorama. Happy modelling!
