I have outlined the conditions of this challenge a little differently. So, forgot to put EAS in a spaceship. The spacecraft is about halfway to Mars. The experiment is crucial, without it the expedition will fail. On board there is a toy 3D printer RepRap. The challenge to produce what we need from what we have :-) Simple parts were designed without much thinking. All were printed and assembled in a single night. The fact that it was designed and printed looks horrible, inefficient, time-consuming to assemble. But it work (the weight 3,53 kg=8 lb), and most importantly 100% can be re-used in ABS plastic filaments. If you do the design details of the optimum form you can greatly reduce the weight Now, more serious questions can be asked. Do I need a universal set? Where it has made on Earth or in a spaceship? Perhaps partly on land, partly on a spaceship. What standard and emergency problems can be solved by this set? Who will promptly help the crew to handle the emergency situation by this set and additional details and available tools. In my opinion the use of 3D printing in space requires organization engineering support of the crew. Effectively apply the outsourcing and attract engineers from around the world to solve problems. This сhallenge, I think is a step in this direction. Not everything runs smoothly, but we learn.
