(See updates at bottom of section.) SpaceX's Starship SN8 high-altitude prototype: My first real model! I started this back in December originally intended for a smaller scale, but I went too far into detail and had to scale it up to it's current scale of 1/200th. It's not perfect, but I did my best to get it as accurate as possible while allowing certain features to still be printable (the umbilicals, the plumbing, etc.). Certain features are still a little over-exaggerated--particularly the weld lines and the umbilicals--from when the model was meant to be a bit smaller scale. I am not entirely finished with the model, nor have a done a test print yet (in other words, not all parts or features may be 100% printable yet), but I am confident enough to finally share it with the world! The interior and the plumbing is very over-simplified, as I do not have enough references to create an accurate model of the interior. Included in the model are various options for different sections. From top-to-bottom: NOSECONE SECTION -Flaps extended (nosecone-section_flaps-out.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped (nosecone-section_flaps-strapped.stl) FORWARD DOME SECTION -Forward dome section with FTS [none yet] -Forward dome section without FTS (forward-dome_no-fts.stl) COMMON DOME SECTION -Common dome section with downcomer (common-dome.stl) -Common dome section without downcomer- for ease of printing (common-dome_without-downcomer.stl) AFT SECTION -Flaps extended, landing legs extended (aft-section_flaps-extended_landing-legs-extended) -Flaps extended, landing legs retracted (aft-section_flaps-extended_landing-legs-retracted.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped, landing legs extended (aft-section_flaps-strapped_landing-legs-extended.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped, landing legs retracted (aft-section_flaps-strapped_landing-legs-retracted.stl) THRUST PUCK -Only version (thrust-puck.stl) RAPTOR ENGINES [SEA LEVEL] -Only version- print 3 (raptor_sea-level.stl) ___________________________________________ -----EASY-ASSEMBLY VARIANTS (Added 8/2/2021)----- ___________________________________________ File names beginning with "TABS" indicate variants with added tabs/slots/pinholes for easier assembly (Note: Only the nosecone, forward dome, common dome, and aft sections have easy-assembly variants. I intend to make a version of the thrust puck and raptors so that they are easier to mount, but until then print the normal files). Again, from top to bottom: NOSECONE SECTION -Flaps extended; easy-assembly variant (TABS_nosecone-section_flaps-out.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped; easy-assembly variant (TABS_nosecone-section_flaps-strapped.stl) FORWARD DOME SECTION -Forward dome section with FTS; easy-assembly variant [none yet] -Forward dome section without FTS; easy-assembly variant (TABS_forward-dome_no-fts.stl) COMMON DOME SECTION -Common dome section with downcomer; easy-assembly variant (TABS_common-dome.stl) -Common dome section without downcomer- for ease of printing; easy-assembly variant (TABS_common-dome_without-downcomer.stl) AFT SECTION -Flaps extended, landing legs extended; easy-assembly variant (TABS_aft-section_flaps-extended_landing-legs-extended.stl) -Flaps extended, landing legs retracted; easy-assembly variant (TABS_aft-section_flaps-extended_landing-legs-retracted.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped, landing legs extended; easy-assembly variant (TABS_aft-section_flaps-strapped_landing-legs-extended.stl) -Flaps tucked/strapped, landing legs retracted; easy-assembly variant (TABS_aft-section_flaps-strapped_landing-legs-retracted.stl) {FTS= Flight Termination System (explosive charges)} I highly recommend printing this with 100% infill. If you have any problems or find that I am missing anything, please let me know! Definitely post a make if you can! I'd love to see how it turned out for everyone! NOTES: -The thumbnail is of an earlier version of the model, but very little was changed on the exterior since that render. -(8/2/2021) I had some weird problems with the scale. The scale of the newer versions may not be consistent with that of the older versions. If this is the case, they shouldn't be too hard to scale to the right size, but if this does become too much of an issue, please let me know. -(8/2/2021) I haven't had a chance to print full versions of the new model. I have done various test-prints for the new attachment points only, and they worked fine, but again, if you encounter any problems, please let me know. ________________________________________ UPDATE: I'm working on adding variants of the model with tabs on the inside to make it much easier to assemble. At the moment, however, I have a few other projects for college that I need to work on. I apologize for the wait, and will hopefully get these up soon! UPDATE 5/30/2021: I've had a slight setback with the tab versions while getting them ready to post. I'll have to redo a couple of them, but most of the design work is already done, so it shouldn't take long. They're coming, though! UPDATE 7/30/2021: New versions mentioned in previous update should be up within the next week or so. Doing some test prints to make sure everything fits together correctly. I apologize this has taken so long, the last few months have been quite hectic and I've struggled to find the time to work on the model. I'm definitely not finished with it, however, and hope to keep improving it! UPDATE 8/2/2021: New versions are here! I am having printer troubles and have not yet been able to print the full model, but from what I have so far it seems the newer sections can be assembled without any glue. Any suggestions/changes are both welcome and encouraged! UPDATE 8/8/2021: I noticed an issue where the detail on the landing legs is too small to print with the standard 0.4mm line width. I'm working on fixing this, I've already done it once without saving before the resulting model crashed my PC. I would also like to redo various parts of the model (mainly the rings, where the weld lines could afford to be less prominent, and the umbilicals, which can be neatened out a bit). This likely won't come in the next update, however. Stay tuned!
