SPD Compatible Pedal Insert

SPD Compatible Pedal Insert

thingiverse

This is a platform pedal insert for SPD compatible pedals. It's for SPD, not SPD-SL pedals aka "Mountain Bike pedals" or 2 hole cleats, not 3. It doesn't use cleats but fits snugly into the pedal. It's designed to be centered on the axle and can be used on one side of the pedal only, or both. I tried many of the SPD pedal inserts on here, most tried to replicate the cleat. I was unable to get almost any of them to work, while one of this design did clip in it had to be broken to be removed. User "rvanwort" created a different design where the pedal didn't feature the cleat but just fit in the middle snuggly. This design is an original and not a remix of that design, but it is inspired by it. I found that pedal (which I made a remix of) was not centered over the axle and it didn't sit straight in the pedal. This insert is centered on the axle, if you choose to use an insert on both sides of the pedal, this means they will line up properly. I have created 2 versions, "with clip" and "without". The clip is on the bottom side and allows you to use a printed clip to lock the two together. This is not necessary as they fit very snugly into the pedal and are unlikely to come out regardless, but adds an extra bit of security if you are concerned about knocking one off. I have Look X-Track pedals which are SPD compatible, & also tested them on a friends bike with Shimano M520 spd pedals.
