I bought a Structure 3D Scanner from Occipital, and have been struggling to get the scanned textures to meet up with the mesh, when exporting to blender. I'm posting this here so that a helpful member of the facepunch forums can see what files are provided by the software. This is a much smaller model than I intend to work with, and was scanned with the ipad software, not Skanect. The only difference being, is that in Skanect I have the option to choose a different output file. But since the advice I've received is that obj is the right way to go, then I thought I'd use this as the example, since the challenge at the moment it to get Blender to apply the UV map provided by the software, programmatically to the mesh. Unwrapping, and lining up every seam would be a logistical nightmare. Since I can see that Skanect is able to marry up that information, and present to me a colour preview before exporting, then I have to believe that there is a way to get the computer to do it for me. To be clear, before exporting from Skanect, Skanect is showing me a preview of the 3d model WITH all the textures applied to it, as I would wish to see it in Blender. PS. Structure does NOT output an MTL file, as does the ipad app for the 3d sensor. I've no idea what it does anyway.
