Sphere-O-Bot Frame, Cut in 3 for tiny printers!

thingiverse

My big printer is not running but I needed to make the Sphere-O-Bot Frame. With Easter coming up I didn't want to count on getting the big one dialed in. So here is a frame cut up for little tiny printers like the Monoprice Select Mini. The frame is the only part of the Sphere-O-Bot that requires a large printer. @jjrobotics if you happen to see this, nicer tabs, a few well placed holes and some screws in the kit would be a great permanent fix for customers with small printers. There are some other folks that had it cut up on Thingiverse but no matter how I rotated them Cura was upset with me. These three pieces can be printed on a bed with a volume as small as 120mmx120mm (Monoprice Select Mini). If your slicer says it won't fit, it may just need to be rotated. I added some tabs at the crests of the interfaces between the pieces to make it easy to glue them together without making it look horrid. It also help to align them of course. You can see in the picture they are darn near perfect. That's without trimming/sanding the tabs at all. At first I was worried about the tab overhangs as they are about 1cm out there, but the monoprice did fine. The first 4-5 layers made loops and after that it was just fine. Just trim the loops. At 0.2 each part takes the monoprice mini about 6-7 hrs. All worked perfectly the first time. The only thing that might be a bugger is that one of the screw holes for the Arduino mount is too close to an edge but its a 3 pt mount so I don't think it will be a problem. This is a remix of Tchouns frame with the extra material instead of supports, no supports needed! You may also need a controller mount file as is the case with his. This thing was made with Tinkercad. Edit it online https://www.tinkercad.com/things/6EpYVtxfGSL
