Sphere Puzzle

Sphere Puzzle

thingiverse

A customizable sphere puzzle. Inspired by the Wikipedia logo. You can put a letter or text on every piece of the sphere. In the customizer you can select from those fonts that are also available in the write.scad thing (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16193) There are some pieces ready for download, but you can use the customizer to create pieces with your own text, or size etc. Also read the instructions. Update 2015-03-20: Now my sphere is finished. I've added some more pieces. Instructions Designing/Customizing You can also use the customizer to create pieces and experiment with the parameters. I've published the OpenSCAD file so that you can do your own designs. (Especially for using other fonts.) When adding text, make sure that it does not overlap because this would interfere when putting the pieces together. (Use the text scale and offset parameters.) Printing Print some test pieces in order to see how they fit. If the pieces fit too tight or too loose adjust the gap parameters in your customized design. Assembly Because this is a 3D puzzle, putting it together is not so simple as you might at first think. All pieces are slightly smaller on the inner side (toward the center of the sphere). As this also applies to the connectors you must also figure out the order of assembly even if you know the position. You also might have to increase the connector neck gap parameter for the last pieces in order to be able the complete the sphere. (Though for me this was not necessary.) Other fonts The customizer allows only certain fonts. If you want to use other fonts I recommend to create dxf files with ttf2dxf fromhttp://www.thingiverse.com/thing:96714 Set the "font" parameter in the OpenSCAD script and set textMethod=0. Have fun!
