Enclosure for 1 kg spools keeps dust and humidity at bay, making handling and storing much easier. I mount it on top of my printer enclosure where it feeds filament to the printer. Alternatively, you can place it on a regular spool holder and feed from there if that suits your preference. Storing is now more organized than ever. There is no pre-drilled hole in the design for filament, so melt or drill one wherever needed. I prefer melting the hole with a soldering iron. Update since my initial upload: Minor adjustments were made to fit within 220 mm and a lip was added to balance it when used on regular spool holders. For standard 1 kg (750g) spools with the following dimensions: - diameter <= 205 mm - inner diameter >= 50 mm - width <= 80 mm You'll need a build platform that accommodates 220 mm in the X direction and 208 mm in the Y direction. It fits, for instance, on a Prusa mk2 or mk3, or an Ender 3. Settings, print time, weight: - 100% infill results in 190 g PLA for the base. - Printing at layer height 0.3, layer width 0.6, and speed 80 mm/s (with a nozzle size of 0.4) takes about 5 hours. - The lid requires 75 g PLA and prints in approximately 1.75 hours. Rigidity: Very rigid after closing the lid. Friction: No noticeable difference to my regular spool holder, but avoid pulling the filament out at an angle or it will rub against the exit hole, which doesn't work. There needs to be some guidance somewhere along the path to the printer (PTFE tube). Other observed issues: Only a few PLA shavings inside from the enclosure itself after the first few hours of printing. Possibly sand it a little before first use. No other issues have arisen; it works perfectly for me.
