Spooled Cord Organizer System

This is a modular cord organizational system that is designed to help wall mount and organize your cords while using the least amount of space possible. Everything is designed to print without supports.

This project is a work in progress, but current state is usable.

Spool Assembly:

Attach tie to desired slot. I have found the slot opposite to the hanging hooks tend to position the cord ends in a more visible position. This can make it easier to find specific port types.

Line up the spool base and hat nubs, make sure that both hooks are on the same side

Press fit and profit

Planned Additional Work:

I have started work on these items, but still sorting out what these look like and do.

Mount Joiner - A small part that slides into the rail system to make joining 2 section together easier. This is more about making the rails easier to mount side by side. The joiner will also contain a slot to insert a small sign / label to indicate what types of connectors are on this rail

Sign - These are intended to fit in a mount joiner and show what types of cords are on that rail. This is to make finding the specific cord type you're looking for painless.

Blank Sign - For label printer labels

Icon Signs

USB-C to USB-A

Larger Spools - Current spool sizes work great for all my standard sized USB cables. Looking at my HDMI cables though I find those to typically be thicker and longer. I'm planning on making a larger spool size for larger / longer cables. As of now I'm planning on it just being a taller spool base to give more space on the spool itself. I do not anticipate that a different spool hat or mount will be required.

Organization Ideas:

One area I feel this design does not properly cover is accounting for cord length. I'd like an easy way to determine which cords maybe extra long vs normal size. As of right now I am planning on using cord spool filament color to show that. For example:

White - 6ft and under (average cord size)

Red - > 6ft - 10ft (IE: HDMI cables)

Blue - > 10ft - 15ft (IE: VR cord extenders)

Green - > 15ft (IE: Big Eth Cables)

Additional Materials:

Screws - #6 should fit in the designed screw holes. I picked up a box of Ace branded #6 x 1in wood screws at my local Ace hardware store, they fit fine.

Cord Ties - likely most ties will fit the existing slots. I have tried both velcro and twist ties without issue. I personally like the velcro style more as they're faster to use and longer than the twist ties I ended up with.

Velcro: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E1Y5O6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Twist Tie: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CS2LZN1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
