Spooler for MendelMax - Remix with Support and Speed Holes
thingiverse
My first MendelMax printed and used was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the excellent [MendelMax spool holder](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:799874) designed by Amplivibe. This innovative creation not only looked futuristic but also fantastic, and proved incredibly easy to print with PLA using supports. However, this initial print was a lengthy one, and it came with its own set of challenges, including the need to fine-tune the supports for the first time. My initial attempt at printing the first set resulted in solid supports! Undeterred, I began browsing for an ABS-compatible spool holder that could be printed for my MendelMax, which is when I stumbled upon [Spooler for Mendelmax](https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:230028) by Lke. Its smaller, almost minimalist design really caught my eye, and the 608 bearing races on the outside proved to be a genius move, as they ensured that the spool wouldn't unscrew itself and entangle the filament. Inspired by my first spool holder experience, I decided to take it up a notch and add some aesthetic voids to this new design. I also added a fillet to the load-bearing portion of the bracket used to screw the holders to the frame, as well as a support for the bearing races. This was all done with the goal of printing ABS using Slic3r and maintaining a proper brim. The result is what you see here, and it works pretty well, if I do say so myself. It's also quite nice to look at!
